Six Landing Points
A Staircase Through Every Electrical Need
The work of an electrical contractor is not one trade but a connected series of decisions. Each landing below represents a discipline we practice daily for residential and commercial clients in Thornhill and the surrounding region. Read them in order and you move from the service entrance at the top of the stair down to the protection equipment that guards the whole building.
STEP 01
Panel Upgrades and Replacements
Older homes in Thornhill and neighbouring districts frequently carry a sixty or one hundred ampere service that no longer matches the way people live. Heat pumps, induction ranges, electric vehicle chargers, home offices and finished basements all pull on a distribution board that was sized for a far lighter household. We perform a full demand load calculation, confirm the utility supply can support the change, coordinate the disconnect with the local authority, and install a new panel with clearly labelled breakers and room for future circuits.
Replacement work is scheduled so that power is restored the same day whenever the utility allows it. We handle the permit application, the inspection booking and the final connection, and we photograph the finished panel interior for your records. You receive a directory card that names every breaker, a torque checklist for the main lugs and a short walkthrough of what each new circuit controls. Learn more on our services page.

STEP 02
Complete Rewiring and Renovation Circuits
Knob and tube wiring, aluminium branch conductors and cloth-insulated cable are common in the older housing stock we serve. These systems can still carry current, but their insulation, bonding and lack of a proper equipment ground create real risks that insurance carriers increasingly refuse to ignore. We rewire entire dwellings and also rough in new circuits for renovations, adding dedicated lines for kitchens, laundry rooms, bathrooms and workshops.
Our method is surgical. We map existing circuits first, fish new cable through finished walls where it is practical, and cut only where the work genuinely requires it. Every junction is made in an accessible box, every cable joint is made with approved connectors, and the finished installation is tested for continuity and insulation resistance before we close the walls. Whole home rewires are staged so that you keep heat, refrigeration and a working bathroom throughout the project.

STEP 03
Indoor and Outdoor Lighting Design
Lighting is where electrical work becomes architecture. We design interior lighting layouts around the way a room is actually used, layering ambient, task and accent sources, specifying colour temperature and beam angle so that finishes read correctly and work surfaces stay comfortable. Track and rail systems, recessed cans, under cabinet strips and dimmer banks are all planned as a single coordinated scheme rather than a collection of separate purchases.
Outdoor lighting receives the same attention. We install weather rated fixtures for driveways, gardens, patios and building facades, wire them on ground fault protected circuits, and position transformers and controls where they can be serviced without disturbing landscaping. Photocells, timers and low voltage zones let a property shift from daytime security lighting to evening atmosphere without anyone walking outside to flip a switch.

STEP 04
EV Charger Installations
Electric vehicle charging is now a normal part of household electrical planning. We assess the existing service, run a load calculation that accounts for the charger alongside every other major appliance, and recommend either a dedicated branch circuit or a load management device when the service is close to its limit. Level 2 chargers are mounted where the vehicle actually parks, with cable management that keeps the garage floor clear.
We install both hardwired and plug connected units, provide the appropriate breaker and disconnecting means, and ground the installation to current code. For commercial sites we coordinate multiple chargers on shared capacity, balance them across phases and document the load profile so facility managers can plan future expansion. Rebate paperwork and inspection scheduling are part of the service, not an afterthought.

STEP 05
Electrical Safety Inspections and Code Corrections
A safety inspection is a systematic look behind the walls and inside the panel. We test receptacles for polarity and grounding, verify that ground fault and arc fault protection is present where required, check bonding of plumbing and gas lines, and inspect the service entrance for corrosion, overheating or improper connections. Thermal imaging helps us find warm terminations before they become failures.
When we find deficiencies we explain them in plain language and quote the correction work separately, so you can decide what to address now and what can wait. Common corrections include missing cover plates, double tapped breakers, undersized conductors on new appliances, and improperly installed outdoor receptacles. Real estate transactions, insurance renewals and post renovation sign offs all move faster when the paperwork is prepared by a licensed contractor who can close the items on the list.

STEP 06
Standby Generator and Surge Protection
When the grid goes down, a properly installed standby generator keeps heat, refrigeration, sump pumps and medical equipment alive. We size generators against a real load list rather than a rough guess, install the automatic transfer switch, and commission the system so that it starts, transfers and shuts down cleanly. Maintenance visits keep the unit exercised and the fuel system healthy between outages.
Surge protection belongs at the service entrance and again at sensitive equipment. We install whole home surge protective devices on the main panel, coordinate them with the grounding electrode system, and add point of use protection for computers, home theatre gear and control boards. Together with correct bonding, these measures turn a nearby lightning strike or utility switching event into a nuisance rather than a claim.
